“… accept the possibility that your real nature is tranquillity, silence …” …&… “… It is vital to live… in oneness with the moment where thought dissolves in silence …” ~ Jean Klein

Jean Klein’s “… teaching is through a direct approach pointing straight to our real nature. It is not concerned with progression, mental activity, striving or levels of spiritual attainment. It takes us directly to what is beyond the mind, to inner stillness and peace beyond the psychological, to infinite expansion, to pure love, in other words, to being what we fundamentally are … {He} embodied unconditional love to all who had the great fortune to meet him …”

Invitation to Silence by Jean KleinAbove words are excerpted from Emma Edwards Introduction to Invitation to Silence: sayings to awaken the self – a recent book by Jean Klein. The book is a compilation of short quotes selected from ten of his books … by his long time student Billy Doyle.

In his work Klein underscores the importance of letting the words (taken from any guru or teaching) “dissolve” in our being vs just mentally understanding … as he notes in the opening page of this book: a most apropos – and anchoring – summation of the book:

As the sayings come from truth the verbal structure dissolves and what remains is the essence which we all have in common.

The content of the words is the same as the presence of the guru and our own presence. To be completely impregnated we must not emphasize the words of the guru, the apparent “outside” but listen deeply to how they resonate in us, how they stimulate our own wakefulness.

We cannot hold on to the sayings but must let them dissolve so that they can act in us.

And, silence, of course, is a topic that is deeply interwoven into most of our content – either directly or indirectly.

So in today’s post, we offer an opportunity to practice Jean’s teachings that are focused on  … accepting the invitation into silence … and then … dissolving into this silence … via few excerpts from various chapters of this book (attribution for this content is at the bottom of the post).

So … pause …. read … then pause again … and instead of thinking further just let each quote below simply dissolve in you … as suggested by Jean …

The Invitation To Silence: Accepting & Dissolving Into Silence

Go deeply into the urge to be silent and not the mental interference of how, where and when. If you follow silence to its source you can be taken by it in a moment.

What you are looking for is peace, silence, yourself, and it can never be an object. It is a feeling. It is a jewel in your feeling. You must love the jewel. You must be it, never go away from it. The jewel is the jewel of your heart. But first you must love what you are really, then you can also love the surroundings. When you are not, then there is love.

You only know yourself in objects, so you are open only to objects and have never allowed yourself to be permeated by unconditioned silence.

Find out in your silence what you love in you. When this love is really alive you will feel it in others because it is not personal, it is an essence in common with all human beings.

This moment, when you are free from the reflex to be somebody is the highest opportunity to be still.

Awareness of stillness, of silence, may first arise in the absence of objects, as often happens in sitting meditation. But later, it is sustained in both their absence and presence. This awareness, which is listening, is the background of every appearance, so that even engaged in activity you are aware of both the activity and being.

Initially the observer is also an object of perception. But later even this observer dissolves in silence. Then you are this silence, timelessness, in both the presence and absence of time.

It is vital to live in identity, in oneness with the moment where thought dissolves in silence and there’s being understanding. What is important is not to fall into the trap of objectifying the insight. We leave it; it never leaves us; it is always.
